We work with every teacher to support the growth, learning, and development of each student.

The Peter Clark Center for Mind, Brain, and Education at Breck School fuels teaching and learning excellence by bridging research and practice for faculty, students, and parents. Breck is where teachers translate relevant research in psychology, cognitive science, and education to effective practice and contribute their insights in the classroom to build a powerful science of teaching for teachers in a variety of teaching and learning contexts around the world. The goal? For students to thrive in the classroom and beyond.

Confident Learners

  • Students who understand how they learn become bold thinkers and self-advocates. We transform teaching practice to strengthen student self-knowledge and build success.

Informed Teaching

  • Curiosity drives learning. We partner with teachers to create the context for intellectual discovery as an ever-evolving process.

Transformed Learning

  • At the heart of intellectual growth is a collaborative teacher-student relationship. We illuminate the path to confident learning and personal excellence.

We believe:

  • E/I-A-M-L: Emotion drives Interest. Together, they drive Attention which drives Memory which results in Learning

  • Learning should yield knowledge, skills and perspectives that are DURABLE over time, FLEXIBLE in their application, and USEABLE in a variety of contexts and situations.

  • Students thrive when they are self-advocates equipped with learning and self advocacy.

  • Students thrive when faculty understand learning and learners.

  • Faculty thrive when empowered to reflect, assess, and develop high impact practices

  • Parents thrive when given the tools to understand and support their child's unique learning journey.

We strive to create a culture within Breck School that:

  • Fosters reflection, self-knowledge, and self-advocating among faculty and students.

  • Enriches and inspires faculty, through informed research and professional development, to help all students develop cognitive skills for learning.

  • Bridges research and practice for faculty, students, and parents and transforms teaching and learning by providing ongoing cutting-edge professional development.

  • Engages parents, teachers, and students through a deeper understanding of learning and human development to support, integrate, and promote healthy cognitive, emotional and physical development.
